Every Farmasi seller knows the first sale is the hardest. You introduce the product, send a sample, answer questions, and wait. Once the customer loves it, buying again should be the natural next step. In reality, many customers just drift away. Not because they didn't like the product, but because it ran out on a busy day, they were at the store anyway, and they grabbed something there. The good news is that you can change this with a simple method built on information you already have: how long each product lasts.

Why repeat purchases matter so much

Selling again to an existing customer is usually faster and cheaper than finding a new one. She already trusts you, already knows the product works, and doesn't need to be convinced from scratch. When repeat purchases become routine, your income gets more predictable and you're not depending only on new referrals every month.

The catch is that repeat purchases rarely happen on their own. They need a gentle nudge at the right time.

The secret: knowing when the product will run out

Cosmetics get used up. Moisturizer, body wash, foundation, perfume: they all run out eventually. If you know, even roughly, how long each item tends to last, you can reach out shortly before the customer needs to buy again.

How to estimate usage duration

There's no fixed rule. Duration depends on the package size and how each person uses the product. A few practical ways to land on an estimate:

  • Your own experience. How long does the product you use yourself last?
  • Ask the customer. "How long did the last one last you?" is a natural and very useful question.
  • Frequency of use. Daily-use products (like a face moisturizer) run out faster than occasional ones (like a specific eyeshadow).
  • Adjust over time. If a customer always reorders early, shorten the estimate. If she still has product when you check in, lengthen it.

Reach out a few days early

Contact the customer a little before the estimated end date, around a week ahead. That gives her time to reply, you time to set the product aside, and delivery time to happen before she runs out.

Step by step: build your repurchase routine

1. Log every sale with the date and product

No record, no reminder. Write down what you sold, to whom, and when. It sounds obvious, but it's the step that breaks most often.

2. Set an estimated duration for each product

Make a list of your best-selling products and give each one an estimated duration. Start with your top 10 or 15 items.

3. Work out the reminder date

Sale date + estimated duration − a few days of lead time = the day to reach out.

4. Keep a daily list of who to contact

Every day, check who's coming up. Five or six thoughtful messages a day will do more for you than one generic blast to everyone.

5. Send a personal message

Your message should sound like you, mention the specific product, and make it easy to reply.

Hi Julia! Just checking in on the serum you picked up last month. By my count, you're probably getting close to the end. Want me to set another one aside? I can drop it off Thursday.

Or, if you prefer a lighter tone:

Morning, Patricia! You crossed my mind today. Is your perfume still holding up? If you'd like, I can set a new one aside and bring along a sample of that hand cream I mentioned.

How to follow up without being pushy

Reminding is different from pressuring. A few rules keep things balanced:

  • One reminder, at most one follow-up. If she doesn't reply, wait a few days and try once more. After that, let it go until the next cycle.
  • Respect "I still have some." Thank her and ask when would be a better time. Update the duration in her profile.
  • Add value, not just a sales pitch. A usage tip, a product pairing, or something new makes your message welcome.
  • Text at reasonable hours. Avoid very early mornings, late nights, or weekends unless the customer prefers that.
  • Only message people who have agreed to hear from you. It's good practice and respects privacy rules.

Grow the order size at repurchase time

The repurchase moment is also a great time to suggest a complementary product. If a customer always buys the same body lotion, she might enjoy a scrub to go with it. If she reorders foundation, a setting powder or primer could make sense.

The key is to suggest one related item with a simple reason. A long list of offers is tiring and confusing.

Got your lotion ready, Renee! A lot of my customers have been pairing it with the body scrub once a week, and their skin feels even softer. Want me to throw in a sample?

Track your results

To see whether the method is working, watch a few simple numbers over the months:

  • how many customers bought more than once;
  • how many repurchase reminders turned into sales;
  • which products get reordered the most;
  • which customers haven't bought in a long time and need a win-back message.

These numbers don't have to be perfect. What matters is spotting trends and adjusting your approach.

Mistakes that kill repeat sales

  • Relying on memory alone. It works with a few customers and falls apart as you grow.
  • Sending everyone the same message. Customers can tell when it's copy and paste.
  • Reaching out too late. If the product already ran out, she may have bought another brand.
  • Giving up after the first "no." Sometimes she just didn't need it yet.

How Minha Boutique helps

In Minha Boutique, you add each product with its estimated usage duration and log your sales by customer. From there, the app figures out when each customer is likely running low and shows you repurchase reminders to send from your own WhatsApp, with messages you can personalize. Over time, the reports show you who keeps coming back and who needs some attention.

Minha Boutique is independent and not affiliated with Farmasi. If you want to see how it works with your own customers, you can try it free for 14 days. Details are on the pricing page.
